Simon Starling (1967 - )

Simon Starling, Autoxylopyrocycloboros, 2006

The work comprised a voyage by a 20ft, steam powered wooden boat called ‘Dignity’ on Loch Long. The boat had been salvaged from the bottom of Lake Windermere and restored. During the voyage the boat itself was steadily sawn up for fuel which was fed into the boiler. The boat effectively consumed itself until it sank and returned to the bottom of the Loch.

Simon Starling won the Turner Prize in 2005.
